May I suggest to the Prime Minister that instead of dragging his feet, thus allowing the instability which reigns in our country at present to continue escalating, he should quickly consult what he had said to The Times June 1998 about the internal problems the Prime Minister of the time, Dr Alfred Sant, was experiencing with Dom Mintoff!
Dr Lawrence Gonzi is in a similar situation today with Dr Franco Debono. So if he wants to be consistent – as he often brags that he is – he should follow the same advice he gave to Dr Sant in 1998. I quote from the report in The Times of 11 June 1998: “Dr Gonzi said [he was then the general secretary of the PN] that it was now crystal clear that the prime minister [Dr Sant] had lost all hope of commanding a parliamentary majority... Dr Sant was obliged to inform the President of the situation.”
Please Dr Gonzi, “for the common good”, heed your own words!
