If our two main political parties really have the common good of the Maltese citizen at heart, I would suggest that – as from next year – they start holding their December money-spinning marathons after that of the Community Chest Fund’s L-Istrina and the one held every 1 January in aid of Dar tal-Providenza.
After all, both the Nationalist and Labour parties have always emphasised the fact that for them the Maltese citizen comes first. But is this still the case or has this maxim now been agonistically reduced to a cliché?
