I guess the Nationalist Party wants to prolong the current situation as long as possible because it is seeing an electoral defeat looming on the horizon.
It is taking its time and seeing that the vote of no-confidence motion that the Labour Party has presented is not discussed quickly, prolonging it to give the party some time to prepare for the inevitable – an early election.
In doing so, I believe that the Nationalist Party is shooting itself in the foot. I agree with Labour leader Joseph Muscat who has said that the PL stands to gain politically; the longer the instability, the better for Labour.
But I also agree with him that the uncertainty is doing harm to the country, and is not beneficial in the prevailing economic circumstances. The country should be focused on how to deal with the current economic crisis, and not prolong a saga unnecessarily.
