The entertaining evening of boxing set for next Friday to be staged at the Sky Club in Paceville has generated a great amount of interest which is reflected by the sound number of bookings done for the night.

The organisers of this Boxing Spectacle, the European Boxing Federation (EBF) in collaboration with local promoter Paul Borg, have announced the names of the foreign boxers and their Maltese challengers.

The bouts on the night will be Dione Galea vs Jordan Black, Etiene Spiteri vs Slinky Cumberlbach, Clayton Vella vs Scott Conners, Justin Grech vs Phill Worell and Tyrone Borg vs Dale Ball. Further to these bouts which will be made up of four by 2mins each session, there will be an additional supporting flight between local boxers, Brandon Borg vs Keith Mills.

As already announced the main bout of the evening will be between Maltese heavyweight Billy Corito and UK Ian Toby, an ex-professional with over 52 professional fights to his credit.

Billy Corito, known as ‘the hit man’, is now also on the EBF books and ranks in the 8th place of the EBF heavyweight Top 10 Ranking.

Twenty-eight years old Corito started training at Bertu’s Gym but is now preparing for the coming fight with the Barun Boxing Team at Siggiewi while he is sharpening his physical conditioning at Lords Gym.

Corito is most keen on this, his first flight since going semi-professional within the arms of the EBF, and his eighth fight since taking up boxing seriously. The Corito – Toby fight will be made up of six sessions of three minutes each.

‘Big’ Joe Egan, the Irish Heavyweight Boxing Legend described by Mike Tyson as ‘The toughest white man on the planet,’ will be travelling to Malta to attend tomorrow night’s Boxing spectacle being organised by the European Boxing Federation (EBF) in collaboration with local promoter Paul Borg.

Joe Egan was a Golden Gloves Champion with an impressive record of over 80 wins and seven Irish titles to his name. While on a training trip to Atlantic City Joe was convinced by two times Heavyweight champion, Floyd Patterson, to stay in the States to become a sparring partner for a promising new Heavyweight boxer called Mike Tyson. Joe, then a 17 year-old, joined the Catskills Boxing Gym in New York, where he lived and trained with Tyson for two years to become great sparring partners and lifelong friends.

On this Malta visit Big Joe Egan will be the International Speaker of the European Boxing Federation delegation which will also include Spencer Brown and James Ward, Chairman and Secretary/Matchmaker respectively of the EBF.

The European Boxing Federation, established in 2005, is Great Britain’s and Europe’s largest Semi-professional and white collar boxing authority. The Federation hosts and officiates over 100 shows per year and currently have over 1,100 registered boxers across Great Britain and Europe at varied levels of skill (white collar, Novice, Intermediate, and Semi-pro).

Another attraction forming part of this event is the weigh-in session of all the boxers in action which is being held on the eve of the Big Night, namely on Thursday 26 January. This is being staged at the Black Bull Pub in Dragonara Road Paceville at 2.30 p.m.

Tickets selling at €25 (VIP) and €15 are available from the London Butcher, Sir Frederick C. Ponsonby Street Gzira, The Art of Fighting Kick Boxing Club, Triq Titu Brandsma Fgura and from the Boxway Fitness Centre, Valley Road Msida.
