Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara have concluded an agreement whereby three players will be moving in the opposite direction.
Striker Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza, right, has gone back to Birkirkara. In return, the Wanderers have signed Birkirkara’s midfielder/striker Trevor Cilia and left flank defender Andrew Decesare.
Birkirkara have opted for Mifsud Triganza in the hope of improving their scoring touch after a series of matches in which they created a lot but concluded very little.
It will be the second spell at Birkirkara for Mifsud Triganza. He had joined the Stripes in 2004 and then joined Sliema in 2009. In those five years, he played 121 matches for the Stripes and scored 52 goals.
On their part, Sliema hope that Cilia and Decesare will be able to improve the team’s chances of finishing among the Top Six. At present they are joint fourth with Balzan Youths, but Birkirkara (one point behind) and Qormi, who are three points adrift of Balzan and Sliema, are also still very much in the battle for the remaining three berths.
Meanwhile Sliema have also lost midfielder Roderick Bajada who has accepted an offer from champions Valletta FC.
Bajada, one of Sliema’s best players this season, including his fine performance on Saturday in his last match for the Blues, is the replacement for Jamie Pace, who has been loaned out till the end of the season to Balzan Youths.
Valletta are also believed to be interested in signing international midfielder Edward Herrera from Hibernians.
