A third-division goalkeeper and a nurse who handled various tasks for Bari players were reportedly arrested in the latest police sweep in an ongoing Italian match-fixing and betting scandal.

The arrests of Piacenza goalkeeper Mario Cassano and Angelo Iacovelli were made early yesterday morning following orders from the Cremona prosecutor leading the inquiry, according to the ANSA news agency.

Since the first wave of 16 arrests in June, there have now been a total of 33 people arrested, including former Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni and former Lazio captain Giuseppe Signori.

Doni reportedly told investigators that Cassano told him where to direct a penalty kick during a fixed Serie B match last season.

Cassano is accused of fixing four Serie B matches involving Piacenza last season and in 2008-09, while Iacovelli was allegedly a middle man in fixing four Serie A matches involving Bari last season, after which both clubs were relegated.

Charges include criminal association and fraud.
