St Patrick 0

Zejtun C 4

Zejtun Corinthains easily disposed of bottom of the table side St Patrick in a low profile match. Zejtun were worthy winners as they were the better team throughout. The Saints had some good moments but Zejtun were not to be denied with Kenneth Abela in splendid form.

The Zejtun striker was surely the best player on the field of play as he was a constant menace to the Zabbar defence. Gockaj was the best player for the losers who remain firmly at the bottom of the table.

Zejtun are now in third place equal on points with Melita and three behind second placed Rabat Ajax, and an interesting sporting battle is in the offing for the promotion race.

The match had a very slow start with the Saints pressing their opponents who could not settle down. But in their first real attack Zejtun forged ahead on 16 minutes. Ganchev passed towards Elzaredi who crossed towards Kenneth Abela who beat Joshua Galea with an angled shot.

Zejtun went close again with an Alzeradi dipper that missed the crossbar by inches. Zejtun were controlling the match as the Saints were never dangerous up front. On 34 minutes Kenneth Abela pounced on a defensive blunder and anticipated the Saints’ goalkeeper but his header went wide.

Three minutes later from a Filipov cross Kenneth Abela’s header from two meters missed the base of the upright by a whisker. Kenneth Abela was always Zejtun’s most dangerous player and five minutes from the break his close range header was saved by Galea.

Two minutes later St Patrick had a glaring scoring chance but Gockaj’s shot from an acute angle went slightly wide.

St Patrick started on the attack the second fourty five minutes with Gockaj creating havoc in the Zejtun rearguard. But on 52 minutes Zejtun doubled the score when following a Ganchev freekick, Kenneth Abela headed home from close range.

On 62 minutes Gockaj was again dangerous for the Saints with his shot blocked by Ranier Farrugia. Two minutes later Zejtun sealed the issue when Shaun Magro’s powerful run was finished off by Elzaredi who slotted the ball home from close range.

In stoppage substitute Gers Delia scored the fourth and final goal for Zejtun wafter a fine solo effort.
