On Saturday the fourth 40 over Winter series game between Krishna C.C and Melita Betfair C.C took place.

The Melita team batted first and had a shocking start losing five wickets for 36 runs up till the 16th over.

Derek Ali did the damage taking four wickets. He was by far the best wicket taker for the Krishna side for the day. Mike Caruana joined Frank Spiteri who had opened the innings and could barely believe what had already happened.

Together they steadied the ship for their team putting on an 86 run partnership. It came to an end with a great piece of fielding from Mark G. Sacco who fielded the ball and threw down the stumps with a direct hit which saw Spiteri just out of his crease.

The strange thing about this run out was that while Spiteri was looking for a single, his partner was worried if he had broken his bat and had no intention of looking for a run.

Spiteri top scored for the day with a great seventy runs which included four fours and a six. Caruana went on to make 36 runs while Prasad Abeysinghe made 14 as the main contributors.

Extras was the third highest score with 32 runs which took the total of the Melita team to a moderate 168 runs. Other wicket takers for Krishna were Nowell Khosla with two, while Kevin Krishna and Sunny Krishna took a wicket each.

The Krishna team had a much better start with Nowell Khosla and Mark G. Sacco making a 38 run partnership until Sacco was out for 19 runs.

Andrew Mitchell was next and he made 20 runs. Sunny Krishna as next in and next out making 10 runs. Khosla was still at the crease and was finally caught after making 57 runs which included five fours.

Derek Ali played one of his best innings taking his team to victory scoring 44 runs from 32 balls which included four fours and two sixes.

With this victory, the Krishna team now have squared the series. For the Melita bowlers Frank Spiteri took two wickets while Sarfraz Ali and Mike Caruana took a wicket each.

Tomorrow the Marsa C.C take on new touring team M.Y. AVIVA C.C starting at 10.30am. In the morning the Sunoco cricket academy/nursery will be from 9am till 10.30am.
