Shiseido Celebrates 140 years dedicated to beauty

The Shiseido story began in 1872 when, influenced by his world travels, founder Arinobu Fujuhara opened the first western-style pharmacy, combined with his own Oriental expertise in pharmaceutical preparation in Tokyo’s Ginza district. The company draws its appreciation for expertise from the West. From the East, it has inherited a philosophy that respects nature and is attuned to others.

Shiseido has developed into a company that currently operates in 87 countries and regions worldwide, and is undertaking various initiatives in order to become a “global player representing Asia with its origins in Japan.” It employs 46,000 employees, has 10 research centres around the world in which is employs 1000 researchers and is placed 5th in the world beauty ranking.

Shiseido strives to create maximum value, high quality cosmetics products and services that satisfy the diverse requirements of customers. From Biotechnology to Aromachology

In the 1980s Shiseido managed to produce hyaluronic acid through biotechnology, a world première. Since the early 1990’s it has focused on a barely-touched upon field, Aromachology, a branch of neurofunctional science that proves the mysterious power of fragrances, light and colour on mood and emotion. Many Shiseido products incorporate ingredients issue of this unique branch of research.
