Winners and runners-up of three tournaments organised by VLTC were presented with trophies during a social event held at the club’s premises recently. Presentations for the Samsung Rennie Tonna Team Tournament, the Wilson Autumn Team Tournament and the John West Mixed Doubles Tournament were held.

Samsung Rennie Tonna team tournament

This competition, sponsored by Samsung attracted the participation of 78 men and 60 women. Teams played against each other twice on a round robin system. The top placed 4 teams proceeded to play the semi-finals with Jonathan Camilleri’s team beating Joe Callus’ squad while the team captained by Carmen Difesa beat the group led by Diane D’Alessandro. In a hard-fought final played on the club’s Atlas Insurance court, Carmen Difesa’s side got the better of Joe Callus’ team , winning 9 games to 7.

Wilson Autumn team tournament

The Wilson Autumn Team Tournament was played on a 15-game, round robin basis. In the semi-finals the team led by Joe Aquilina beat Adrian Chetcuti’s side while the group captained by Suniel Balani eliminated that of Carmen Difesa. The final was played in front of a sizeable crowd which assisted to some fine play. Despite stiff opposition from Aquilina’s group, Balani’s pack won the tournament. The event was sponsored by the Wilson sports firm through its representative in Malta, Mr Gordon Asciak.

John West Mixed Doubles tournament

A total of 30 couples divided into 6 divisions participated in the John West Mixed Doubles. The duo made up of Martin Zammit and Carmen Difesa emerged the winners in Division One. John Azzopardi and Loraine Attard were the runners up.
