London Olympic organisers say an 80-mile (130 kilometre) dress rehearsal for the torch relay will go through both rural and urban locations in central England.

The practice will take place on 20 April and be run from Leicester to Peterborough.

The route takes in alternative modes of transportation - including train and rescue boat.

The relay itself will involve 8,000 runners and include trips past landmarks the length of Britain. The journey ends in London with the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremony on 27 July. The games last until 12 August.

Security is also a key issue. The relay’s public nature makes it a target for all sorts of causes, including demonstrators upset over the expenditures on the Olympics.
