Malta Independent Thursday, 8 March 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Twenty six students were awarded the Bursary Scheme for Deserving Students launched by the Valletta Gateway Terminal Ltd (VGT), the joint venture between Portek Group and the Tumas Group, which operates the Grand Harbour Terminals.

The aim of the Bursary Scheme launched in October 2011 by VGT is to encourage students in their academic pursuits by means of financial support towards their living costs, fees or purchase of educational equipment, or to meet extra costs towards special needs and/or a combination of any of the above.

Students applied for the bursary either directly to VGT Ltd or through the Ministry of Education, Employment and Family or were nominated by their Heads of Schools or teachers.

Addressing the students at the Ministry of Education, Employment and the Family after the presentation of cheques, Mr. Peter Darley, Managing Director of VGT, expressed his satisfaction that this first corporate social responsibility initiative was a success, both in terms of the number and quality of applicants and thanked the Ministry of Education for their support.
