It was a one team show last Sunday as Team Greens showed sheer supremacy in the team time trial held last Sunday at Bahar ic-Caghaq.

What is now considered as the battle of the clubs, the best four-man-team formation of each club took the fifth edition of the team time trial which was organised by Team Greens.

The race saw excellent team dynamics and elevated speeds set by Birkirkara St Joseph and The Cyclist Cycling Club in the initial phases of the race.

However, race favourites Team Greens did not fail to produce another winning performance. The team led by champion Etienne Bonello, Jason Vella, Gerard Said and Christopher Gatt rolled smoothly along the course to stop the clock on the 56:56 mark.  

Birkirkara St Joseph also had an excellent showing with a time of 58:55, two minutes slower than the winners.

The Cyclist Cycling club who were not riding in full force produced a good performance to finish in a creditable third place in 59:47.

The race for the Masters was won by Team Greens with Joseph Bonello, Joseph Zammit, Jude Zammit and Peter Gatt, while Marie Claire Aquilina  of Team Greens  won the ladies individual time trial race followed by Donatelle Camilleri of Agones CC and Michelle Vella Wood of B’Kara St Joseph.

Kurt Muscat, Mark Farrugia and Andrea Lucia completed the podium for Mosta AF Sign Studio in the Under 15 category.

The race was made possible with the assistance of the Malta Cycling Federation, Greens Supermarket, BBB Bike Parts and Eurosport.

Team Greens for Algeria Tour

This weekend, Team Greens will start its international campaign by competing in the Tour of Algeria, a six leg stage race covering 900km.

The race, which is a UCI 2.2 sanctioned event, will host around 120 riders from both North Africa and European countries.

Team Greens will be represented by Etienne Bonello, Jason Vella, Christopher Gatt and Gerard Said with the backup support of club president Charles Sammut and sports therapist Joseph Buttigieg.

Following the Tour of Algeria, the team will then travel to Cyprus to compete in the Tour of Cyprus. This string of high level races will bring the team to its first season’s objective - the Tour of Malta - at the end of the month.
