The 11th Autocross ASM – Pasta Poiatti National Championship Event will take place today at the ASM Racing circuits at Ta’ Qali. Motocross races will also be included in this programme.

The Motocross riders will perform their pre-race warm-up at 11am, followed by Autocross races which includes an ‘S’ shaped chicane.

With 10 races performed from 15 along the championship, the leaders list has started taking shape.

Though Patrick Cassar won the last event’s finals, he is still seven points adrift of Christian Galea’s 62 points at the tip of the classification.

Both Galea and Cassar have performed very well during the championship so far and have displayed excellence of vehicle control an the track’s loose and wet track surface. Current champion Manuel Muscat occupies third overall with 31 points on his Opel Corsa.

A look into the Autocross Class B championship scale shows that Matthew Borg, on a Vauxhall Nova, is now leading with 33 points when he won first place during the last event’s final races which placed him in the leading position.

Mario Scicluna is runner-up with 30 points and next runner-up the scale is Philip Joe Vella with 16 points. Scicluna and Vella drive Opel cars of 1400cc capacity.

The highly competitive Motocross Class A riders demonstrate true skills while riding their motorcycles.

The ex-champion, Clayton Camilleri, has progressed quite well both in riding techniques and race endurance on his KTM 250cc bike. Clayton is leading with 90 points in four races and is very closely followed by Carmel Borg with 88 points on a Suzuki RMZ.

Current championship leader Stefan Dimech is placed third overall with 82 points on a Honda CRF.

With four races to go in this championship one can never tell who the winner will be.

Seven of the ASM Class A and B Motocross riders are preparing to race in the Sicily Regional Motocross championship in the under 21 and over 21 classes.

Gozo Class B rider Charles Borg, on his Honda, is leading the Class B championship with 89 points. Charles has built a gap on his runner-up, Turu Micallef, who has won 81 points. Both Borg and Micallef ride on Honda CRF’s.

Young Brandon Muscat Cassar has 53 points. In fact, four riders are sharing 53 points but according to the European rules, Brandon Cassar is placed third, Brandon Slowe is fourth, Renato Mizzi is fifth and Joseph Bigeni is sixth overall.

The next Small Car Demolition will be organised on 25 March from 4pm together with the Autocross and Motocross races.
