In the only match played over the past weekend, Gharghur registered a very important win over Zebbug, thus keeping hold of their fourth place on the grid with 31 points.

After having won their last three outings, Zebbug’s streak was halted and they remain stuck in fifth place with 30 points, behind the same Gharghur.

Zebbug opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, when Pereira da Mata chipped towards the unmarked Aaron Agius who went past goalkeeper Zarb and tapped the ball between the untenanted posts.

Gharghur’s comeback commenced six minutes later, when after Alegbe’s foul in the area, it was Strati Iliev who shot the ball home from the penalty spot.

On 46 minutes, Gharghur took the lead, when after a precise pass from Gauci, Trayo Grozev curled the ball past goalkeeper Mercieca and into the back of the net.

Fifteen minutes from time, Zebbug were down to 10 men, when Aaron Agius was sent off for his second bookable offence, following a nasty foul on Antignolo.

Gharghur sealed the three points five minutes from time, when from a lovely combination between Ryan Debattista and Grozev, it was the latter who scoredwith a powerful shot from an acute angle.
