A clash between the leading teams produced a game played at cup tie pace with both teams cutting down each other’s space for manoeuvre. 

This resulted in a hard fought first half with only one penalty corner awarded to Rabat in the 14th minute and both teams creating one goal scoring chance each towards the end of the first half.

Rabat drew first blood in the 41st minute when Kevin Micallef netted and from then onwards the game see-sawed from end to end.  

A Rabat penalty corner in the 49th minute was saved by the Qormi custodian but in the 59th minute Qormi drew level through a Juan Sarcia effort. 

Drama followed when three minutes later Qormi were awarded a penalty stroke which Jonathan Borg failed to convert.  

Both teams strove further to break the deadlock but the score remained unchanged at the final whistle.

A studious start to the game which produced very little goalmouth action until the 18th minute when Hotsticks were awarded a penalty corner which resulted in a save by the Young Stars goal keeper.

In the 24th minute, Young Stars were awarded a penalty corner of their own immediately followed by another and Mark Camilleri scored to put them ahead – a lead which they held up to half time.

Straight from the start of the second half, Joseph Dalli scored for Young Stars to put them two up and then they piled on the pressure winning six penalty corners and scoring the third goal when Edward Hughes netted in the 54th minute. 

Hotsticks reacted and in the 62nd minute Ryan Dalli reduced the arrears.  They continued to exert pressure on the Young Stars rearguard winning three penalty corners.

They also created a clear goal-scoring chance in the last five minutes of the game but were unable to reduce the arrears further.
