The Dragonara Casino Tazza l-Kbira continues this weekend, with 23 horses contesting two semi-finals on a 2,640m distance, one in Sunday’s meeting and the other in the one being held on Monday (public holiday). Both race cards start at 1.30pm and include eight races each.

The quality of trotters competing in these semi-finals make it extremely difficult to predict the six horses from each heat which will make it to the final scheduled for Sunday 1 April.

The first semi-final includes horses such as Prix de Vincennes winner Mig of the Wood, Nuage de Bourgogne and True Q both coming from three consecutive wins, Nabab du Chatelet, winner of two out of its three outings locally, Normand d’Oger which placed four times this year and all the other quality participants.

We are also spoilt for choice in the second, with last year’s triple championship winner Livi Cantona, heats winners Arnie Sensation and Nelson du Val, with the other nine horses also being extremely valid and capable of challenging strongly for a win or a good place.

The other trot races are qualifiers for condition finals for each of the other classes. These are also extremely balanced races with only the first two or three horses from each race qualifying for the finals. Hard-fought races will determine the participants in the finals, scheduled for Easter Sunday 8th April.

Weekend racing variety is nicely rounded off with two interesting flat races, one in each meeting.

A great atmosphere at the racetrack awaits every enthusiast, especially to determine the finalists of these prestigious championships.
