Malta Independent Sunday, 18 March 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

On Saturday 3 March, our association, the 3/11 Regiment RMA (T), in conjunction with the Birzebbuga local council, laid a wreath at the marble plaque for the first time in remembrance of the six brave soldiers, who lost their lives on 20th July, 1941 on a Bofors gun position sited on the rocky foreshore of the main Kalafrana road a hundred yards from the present Birzebbuga bus Terminus. The soldiers who died were the following:

4371 Lance Sergeant Fedele Zarb M.M

10677 Gunner Saviour Sillato

10774 Gunner Francis Baldacchino

10789 Gunner Albert Zammit

10809 Gunner Joseph Ellul

41440 Gunner Francis Agius

The plaque indicates the Bofors gun position. The area has since been levelled and transformed into a promenade.
