Zejtun C 1

Lija A 0

Zejtun beat a gallant Lija side with a Ganchev goal twenty minutes from time.

Lija showed the better football and even hit the crossbar in the second half, and surely deserved something better from this match.

Zejtun had a promising start with Kenneth Abela their most dangerous player. After only ten minutes he tested Ini with an angled shot and some minutes later Gers Delia passed towards the completely unmarked Kenneth Abela who was again denied by a brilliant Ini save.

On 19 minutes Zejtun lost Elzaredi who limped off and was substituted by Kalin Ganchev. Lija were the beter team in the second part of the first half as they pushed their way forward with Erjon Beu devastating on the left flank and Abdullah Ige always creating havoc in the Zejtun penalty area.

In the second half Lija were unlucky when Gilbert Camilleri’s header smashed against the crossbar but on 70 minutes Zejtun dealt Lija the killer blow when Edward Azzopardi’s cross from the left flank caught the Lija defence napping, and Kalin Ganchev made no mistake wiyh a precise grounder that finished past Ini.

Lija’s late reaction in the remaining minutes was rather chaotic and Zejtun preserved their precious lead till the end.
