Table-tennis - Malta Team at Dortmund world championships

The Maltese national team, under the charge of Mario Genovese, yesterday travelled to Dortmund, Germany, where they will be taking part in the world championships.

The Maltese players are Edward Baldacchino, Andrew Gambina and Alex Soler. The Maltese group leader is Joe Borg Cardona, president of the Malta Table-Tennis Association.

The competition starts today and comes to an end next Sunday.

Malta will be taking part in the Fourth Division and has been drawn in Group M alongside Morocco, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Macao and Syria.

The Malta team is the lowest ranked in the Group at 109. The others are ranked as follows: Morocco 70, Pakistan 82, Puerto Rico 84, Macao 95 and Syria 96.

Malta starts its commitments today with a match against Pakistan. Tomorrow, they will be playing against Macao, while on Tuesday they have a double assignment, having to play against Syria first, and Puerto Rico later. The final group match is to be played against Morocco on Wednesday.
