Malta’s two big guns, Sliema McDonalds and Neptunes Emirates, face off this evening at the Tal-Qroqq Pool as the Bank of Valletta winter league resumes with two Day 2 matches which had been postponed earlier this month.

This match is the first on the programme. The other is the 3CXExiles-Sirens Ritter Sport clash.

It is the first big match of the year between the two clubs - Malta’s waterpolo giants.

At present, four clubs - Neptunes, Sirens, San Giljan and Sliema - are leading the standings jointly on six points each, but Neptunes and Sirens have played two matches, while Sliema and San Giljan have played three.

Sliema could become the new sole leaders if they beat Neptunes and Sirens are gunned down by Exiles, surprise winners over San Giljan last Saturday.

It is a very interesting situation which makes today’s matches much more interesting that predicted.

Both Sliema and Neptunes should be expected to go out for the three points at stake.

The rivalry that exists between the two clubs will certainly attract a bumper crowd to the Tal-Qroqq Pool.
