Beaches

Malta Independent Thursday, 29 March 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

It’s not even summer yet, but people are flocking to the beach in droves on the weekend. Every year, a team of people puts in hundreds of man hours to keep the beaches clean. Every morning, they are up and clear away cigarette filters, straws, food packaging and various bits of detritus that beach goers have left behind them.

Even now, when there are bins which allow for separation of waste, people still just leave things behind them, or worse still, bury their rubbish in the sand. Apart from the obvious eyesore, it can be dangerous to people. It also harms the environment because rubbish does eventually wash out into the sea.

It doesn’t take much, just take a plastic bag with you, put your rubbish in it and throw it out at the end of the day.
