After two exciting phases from the Dragonara Casino Tazza l-Kbira, next Sunday is the Big Day, that of the much-awaited final.

The meeting starts at 2pm and comprises eight races, with varied entertainment providing a great backdrop to this final, the Blue Riband of Maltese trot racing. This will include a parade of classic cars and motor cycles, another parade for participating horses and drivers and other attractions.

The participants include some of our best horses, hailing from France, Sweden and Germany. Livi Cantona and Nuage de Bourgogne are coming from four consecutive wins, True Q from three wins and a runner-up place, Mig of the Wood won December’s Prix de Vincennes, Nabab du Chatelet and Nelson du Val both won twice and placed in their few races here, Arnie Sensation won 12 times in Malta.

The others are all worthy finalists, capable of challenging for this prestigious honour: Mystere d’Urfist, Ouest du Vivier, Label Chouan, Troy Boshoeve and Onyx Speed.

Undoubtedly, a great race awaits the racing fraternity, the outcome of which is impossible to predict.

A race meeting will also be held on Saturday (Freedom Day public holiday) starting at 2pm.

Here the main attraction is the Malta leg of the Mediterranean Horse Racing Union championship in which Maltese driver Raymond Clifton will compete against drivers hailing from other Mediterranean countries. We wish the best of luck to our expert, veteran representative.

The meeting also includes two balanced Premier class races with a variety of popular horses including past Tazza l-Kbira winner Kakisis, last week’s winner Oviedo Vici and many others.

A great weekend of racing awaits all enthusiasts. After weeks of discussions on favourites and likely winners, it is now finally time to determine the trotter which will carve its name on this most prestigious trophy.
