Three Maltese MiniMoto drivers, Dylan Cauchi, Glenn Schembri and Ryan Faenza, took part in the first event of the ‘Campionato FMI Regionale di Sicilia’, where they performed excellently and finished second and third on the podium.

The team encountered a lot of problems to arrive for this success. For the last six months, they had no proper track where to set up the bike and nowhere to train, but with the help of their mechanic, Frans Schembri of Motoland Garage, their dream was made possible.

Another obstacle was to obtain the FMI licence to participate in the championship. Till the last day nothing was confirmed but the team still went to Triscina, Sicily. Frans Deguara (ASM President) and Johan Pace were a great asset for the acquisition of this licence.

Friday and Saturday were intense days of setting up the bikes and practice. The weather also was an opponent, since till the last minute, they were not sure whether to set for wet or dry track.

Sunday morning started with scrutineering by FMI officials and later the pole position. Dylan Cauchi did the best lap time, Glenn Schembri the fifth best time while Ryan Faenza the seventh best time on the grid.

The Senior Open A Minimoto Race started in the afternoon. There was a continuous fight for the first place between Dylan and the Sicilian driver Danilo Sapienza, with Dylan in the first place for most of the race, until the last corner before the checked flag, when Dylan had gone wide and Danilo took advantage of the situation.

Glenn Schembri also performed a great race, finishing in the third place. Unfortunately Ryan Faenza had to abandon the race after five laps because of engine problems.
