As a resident of St Julian’s, I am very concerned by the proposed over-development around Spinola Bay, in particular the application to build a seven-storey building between Villa Friére and Saddles, and the proposed development adjacent to the parish church.
The old part of St Julian’s still enjoys a tranquil and serene way of life and it is our right and duty to protect it, in particular Lapsi Street which stands to take a much heavier flow of traffic with the construction of four major new developments.
Has anyone at Mepa carried out a study on how these areas will be negatively impacted and changed if these proposed developments are given the green light for a supermarket, offices, commercial outlets and apartments, not to mention two more projects, one in Spinola square and the other above the old Tigullio site.
We have read many fine words about Mepa’s holistic approach to planning and the protection of the environment. Is Mepa going to honour its words by commissioning these studies, or are they going to ring hollow after all?
