Marcelo Pereira scored a brace as Vittoriosa beat Pieta to register their second consecutive win and move to safer waters in the table.
For Pieta it was another deadly blow in their quest for promotion as they suffered their fifth defeat from seven matches in the second round.
Vittoriosa created the first chance when Marcelo Pereira passed towards Leighton Grech who hesitated in front of goal.
Vittoriosa forged ahead on nine minutes when Marcelo Pereira scored a beauty from the edge of the area with a shot on the turn.
Pieta had an immediate reaction with Jurgen Pisani denied by a vela save. The same player went close again on 20 minutes when his dangerous cross shot almost deceived the Vittoriosa custodian.
Vittoriosa were menacing again when Pereira passed towards Grech who was again hesitant in front of Montfort and Zach Muscat blocked the danger.
In the second half Marcelo Pereira sealed the issue when he blasted the ball past Montfort on 59 minutes.
The Pieta custodian saved his side from further damage with two brilliant saves off Pereira and Adam Spiteri.
On 70 minutes Vittoriosa were reduced to 10 men when Kevin Michael Robinson received a second booking.
