It is Holy Week, and it is time to reflect on the pain and suffering Jesus Christ went through to redeem us.
Over the past years, each time I have attended a Good Friday procession, I have noticed that the Passion of Our Lord is fast losing its significance. Such processions have unfortunately become yet another chance for “entertainment”, rather than as a way to think about why Jesus Christ was crucified.
It is not an uncommon sight to see people munching cheesecakes or eating pizzas during the procession. Neither is it uncommon to have people crossing over from one side of the road to the other, in front of the statues being carried.
We should all have great respect for the tradition of our Good Friday processions. They should not be turned into yet another chance for a picnic.
