Dingli scored two second half goals through Chris Azzopardi to beat St george’s in a decisive match for the relegation zone. The match was balanced but Dingli always showed the better ideas and in the end they were worthy winners.

Dingli’s victory came after four consecutive defeats, and the win lifts them three points above St Patrick and five above the same St George’s who are at the bottom of the table.

The Saints lacked punch in attack with their best chance coming six minutes from time when Ruiz hit the post.

On three minutes Dingli had their first shot at goal when Porcari’s freekick went slightly over the bar. The Saints had more of the ball but Dingli were more dangerous and Porcari headed inches wide a Konda corner.

On 28 minutes St George’s had their first try at goal when following a melee in the Dingli area, Ruiz’s shot was somehow deflected by goalkeeper Farrugia. On 33 minutes Rocha Dos Santos tried his luck with an angled shot that went wide.

Two minutes from the break Porcari missed a sitter in front of goal and in the last shot of the first half, Dingli goalkeeper Farrugia tipped into a corner a dangerous cross shot from Inguanez.

On the resumption Porcari powered his way inside the area but his shot was saved by Marmara. Minutes later the St George’s custudion was again called in action to brilliantly save a Konda scorcher.

On 68 minutes the Saints went close with a Ruiz freekick saved by Farrugia. On 74 minutes Dingli broke the deadlock when Kurt Pace did al the running before passing towards the unmarked Chriss Azzopardi who fired in the top corner of the net for a great goal..

The Saints’ reaction was rather chaotic but they were unlucky on 83 minutes when a Jonathan Ruiz shot from the edge of the area slammed against the upright with Farrugia completely beaten.

On 90 minutes Dingli put the issue beyond doubt when Porcari passed towards Chris Azzopardi who anticipated Marmara with a precise lob to score his second goal of the day.
