Veteran sports journalist Colin Cauchi passed away yesterday morning.

The father of PL Member of Parliament Gino Cauchi, Colin served local sport as a journalist for more than 50 years.

He acted as an administrator, director, journalist and broadcaster, always in the sports sector.

Cauchi was a former secretary of the National Sports Board, president of the National Sports Contests, former secretary of the Federation of Football and also a member of the MFA Council. For 22 years, he served as president of the Bocci federation and led Malta into the international scene with its affiliation to the international federation. He also worked hard towards the setting up of the European Bocci federation.

As a broadcaster, he worked at the then Rediffusion, Radio Malta, Xandir Malta and Super One Radio. He was also a contributor to the local Maltese daily l-Orizzont.

For several years, he also served as vice president of the then Sportswriters Association.
