Birmingham City said former England striker Trevor Francis is recovering well in hospital after surgery following a heart attack.

The 57-year-old Francis is known as England’s first million-pound footballer after being bought by Nottingham Forest from Birmingham for that figure in 1979.

Birmingham said on its website Saturday that its former player and manager "suffered a heart attack yesterday and underwent an operation."

Birmingham says Francis should be able to return home within a week.

Francis scored 12 goals in 52 games for England, and has managed clubs including Birmingham, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.

He also spent six years playing in Italy, for Sampdoria and Atalanta, in the 1980s.

Report: Anderson shuns breathalyser test in Brazil 

Brazilian police say Manchester United midfielder Anderson refused to take a breathalyser test after being stopped at a police checkpoint.

Authorities told the GloboEsporte.com website that Anderson refused the test on Friday in the southeastern city of Porto Alegre.

Anderson is allowed by Brazilian law to refuse the breathalyser test, but by doing so he incurred a fine and had his drivers’ license temporarily seized. One of his bodyguards had to drive his car.

The Zero Hora daily said Anderson’s representatives denied the player refused the test. They said he was stopped at the police checkpoint after leaving the home of one of his relatives.

Anderson, who turns 24 on Friday, is in Brazil while recovering from a right hamstring injury.

Jordi Cruyff to leave AEK Larnaca

Cypriot club AEK Larnaca says its director of football and former Barcelona and Manchester United player Jordi Cruyff will leave the club next season.

AEK said in a statement on its website Friday that Cruyff, who played for Valletta FC in Malta two seasons ago, wants to join an unnamed foreign side for the new season and rebuffed the club’s attempts to keep him for another year.

The club said Cruyff, the son of Dutch football great Johan Cruyff, was the “architect” of the team’s reorganisation during his two-year tenure and contributed strongly to its successes. AEK became the first Cypriot team to reach the Europa League group stage this season.

AEK is fifth in the Cypriot domestic league.
