Newly crowned national champion Keith Galea continued with his positive performances in 2012 with another solid second place in the Sicily Duathlon championship held recently in Buseto Palizzolo.
The race started with a fast 5km which the 60 participants tackled in very bad weather.
Galea entered transition in first place followed closely by two national team Sicilians.
Over the 20k technical bike course, Galea found some difficulties due the lack of knowledge of the course and the foul weather.
This was a big advantage to the local duathletes who took over the lead from the Malta champion half way through the bike course.
A determined Galea entered the second transition determined to gain ground in the last 2.5km run.
Truly in his best ever running form, Galea gained second position after the first kilometre and powered his way to close the gap on last year’s Sicilian champion Sebastiano Foti.
Unfortunately the gap proved too much and the Malta champion had to settle for second place, although still winning his age group.
Galea is currently on the 20/20 scheme and is showing great improvement.
His next commitment will be the ETU European championships in Israel.
