British High Commissioner Ms Louise J Stanton OBE met Clyde Puli, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, yesterday to mark 100 days to the start of the London Olympic Games.

During their meeting, the High Commissioner and the Parliamentary Secretary discussed Malta’s hopes for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the UK’s efforts to organise the “best show on earth”.

Following the meeting, the High Commissioner commented:

“One hundred days from now the eyes and ears of the world will turn to Britain as the London 2012 Games open. It is a huge honour to host the Games three times and we want to make the most of this unique opportunity. We are on time, on budget, and counting down to the world’s biggest spectacle!”

The High Commissioner added:

“The UK is looking forward to welcoming the Maltese delegation to the Games this summer, joining together in this sensational sporting, social and cultural event. I wholeheartedly wish all the Maltese Olympic and Paralympic athletes every success at the London 2012 Games; it would be truly wonderful if Malta’s first Olympic medial could be won in London! Awguri mill-gdid!”

During their meeting the High Commissioner and PS Puli also discussed Malta’s aspirations for the Paralympic Games, and agreed that Malta and the UK share a mutual commitment to promote and encourage disability sports.

London 2012 is the first Games where the planning and organisation of the Olympics and Paralympics has been fully integrated. Disability access has been incorporated into the design and structure of the buildings, open spaces and public transport for 2012. It promises to be the biggest ever Paralympic Games, leaving a lasting legacy.
