This game was watched by a sizeable crowd at Luxol. Both sides played a very good game with Pieta enjoying the lion’s share of the exchanges in the first period with Mosta being a very improved outfit after the restart.

Pieta are now in third place on 41 points from 21 games while Mosta are fifth from bottom on 27 points also from 21 games, moving a step away from the danger zone as four teams will be relegated this season.

The first action came from Pieta as they won a corner kick on the right flank which was well-taken by Christian Stewart and Mosta keeper Emmanuel Borg saved a header by Karl Micallef..

At the other end Mosta won a free kick as Jake Vella was fouled on the right flank and the ball hit the defensive barrier and was cleared from the free kick by Kurt Zammit.

Pieta then had four actions. Dylan Agius served Karl Hili with a high through ball in the area and Borg had to come out of his charge to fist the ball away.

Mosta defender Dylan Meli then handled the ball just outside the area and Borg saved the free kick by Kyle Cesare. A well-taken flag kick by Zachary Gatt created havoc in Mosta’s area but the ball was somehow cleared.

Dean Bonello then released Gatt on the right flank and the ball was cleared to a corner following his cross in the area.

In an action by Mosta Kurt Zammit served James Brincat with a through ball in the area and Pieta keeper Matthew Grech foiled him with a timely sortie.  

Pieta opened the score in the 36th minute as Cesare served Hili with a through ball in the area and he scored with a hard grounder.

In the last action before the break, Luke Tabone served Cesare in the area and Borg foiled him with a timely sortie.

Mosta created the first two actions after the restart. Zammit served Godwin McKay with a square pass and Grech saved his shot from outside the area and Joshuael Azzopardi was fouled outside the area and the ball was headed away from the free kick by Gordon Saliba.

Pieta then had two actions in a row. Luke Tabone was fouled and the ball was cleared away with difficulty from Dean Bonello’s free kick and Dylan Agius dribbled past an opponent on the right flank who then crossed to Hili in the area who headed out.  

In a reaction by Mosta Luke Tabone handled the ball outside the area and from the free kick by Brincat the ball was blocked by the defensive barrier and was cleared away.

Then Kyle Frendo pounced on a faulty clearance and Grech saved his effort from outside the area. 

Pieta came close to a second goal in the 63rd minute when Cesare dribbled past two defenders and, after entering the area, he missed the upright with his shot.

In another action minutes later, Bonello served Stewart in the area and after Borg partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away.

Just before the final whistle Mosta were awarded a free kick on the right flank after a foul on Frendo and Gordon Saliba scored with a hard rising shot from 30 metres obtaining an equaliser and a point for his side.
