Żminijietna – Voice of the Left appeals to the Government to introduce measures so that the basic consumption of gas is safeguarded.

Żminijietna believes that this can only be achieved through state subsidies towards domestic use. On the other hand the use of gas by the commercial sector should not enjoy the same social treatment.

The latest increases in the price of gas show that the families are the ones carrying the burden, so that the price of gas for commercial use is not raised.

Żminijietna continues that in reality there is a paradox in society where pensioners are finding it hard to heat their house in winter, while open air restaurants are wasting gas to heat the area.

Żminijietna maintains that the Government should generate more revenue from progressive taxation, such as the European proposal for a financial transaction tax, and through windfall profits from the financial, banking and gaming sector.

Żminijietna believes that the State should intervene according to needs, so that the social aspect is protected in the use of energy. Żminijietna also believes that the regulating authority should be more transparent and sensitive towards the consumer.
