Current national triathlon champion Dermot Galea is taking part in the European Long Distance Duathlon Championships being held in Horst, Holland, this weekend.

The race will commence with a 15km run on a 4 lap course, followed by 60km cycling on a flat course around the town and finish with a 2 lap 7.5k run.  Galea is using this race as preparation for Ironman Wales which will be held in Tenby, UK in mid-September. 

Dermot stated that ‘Preparation in the last six weeks was very difficult due to heavy work commitments but I am confident of a solid result. Training has been steady, though the focus at the moment is to build a solid foundation in preparation for Ironman Wales, so timing will not be the most important factor in this race, though we are prepared to give a great performance’

Galea is accompanied by fellow Maltese triathlete Luke Bonnici who is taking part in his first long distance event. The Maltese athletes’ logistics is being handled by Team GB triathlete Bill Livingston.
