Żminijietna - Voice of the Left welcomes the decision taken by MEPA to reject the proposal for more development at Portomaso.

This decision, although it was not backed by all members of the board, sends a clear message to the Environment Planning Directorate (EPD) that open spaces also have an environmental value in society, even more so when the area involved is already densely developed.

In fact the recommended approval given to this new development by the Environment Planning Directorate was an offence to all who believe in social and environmental justice.

Żminijietna believes that any new proposal regarding the area in question should aim for the rehabilitation and conservation of the said area to serve as an open and ecological space”.

This can only be achieved if the developers have an interest in this. But the fact that the historic entrenched wall has not been properly maintained, does not give one much hope.
