Maltese player Massimo Cremona has again been prominent in nearby Italy as he has helped his club Bari win the Italian Serie A title.
It is well to mention that this was the third honour for F.Illi Bari. Ear;lier they had won the Super Cup and the Italian Cup.
The team started the second round with a seven-point lead in February and won 17 out of 18 matches, finishing on 51 points, 13 ahead of second placed Perugia on 38. Third were Pisa on 37.
Among their victories was an excellent 4-0 against European champions Pisa.
The club paid tribute to its players on its official website, saying among other things that Massimo had played to a very high level in helping the club to its success.
Seven Maltese players were involved in the competition for five teams in different categories. Joseph Mifsud and Hansel Mallia played for Fiamme Azzurre of Rome
In the Serie C championship, Patrick Pace played for Lazio who qualified for a promotion play-off where they lost to Napoli Fighters 4-0. Jean Carl Tabone helped Palermo retain their status in this division.
On their part, Stefan Pace and Darren Bezzina were in their first year with Serie D outfit SPQR Fiumicino who could only manage seven points from a maximum of 27.
