Horse-racing: Skyparks Swedish Trotters finals at Marsa

Malta Independent Friday, 4 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A great meeting is in the offing next Sunday at the Marsa racetrack with four finals on a 2,140m distance from the Skyparks championships reserved for Swedish trotters, dominating the 9 race card.

With the Premier class final being held next week, Sunday’s main final is that for Gold class horses. Ten horses aged between 7 and 14 years, many of which had prestigious pasts in Swedish racecourses, will challenge each other for this prestigious championship.

These include semi-final winners Lover Boy Index and Soren Sufflor and runners-up Affe Fager and Hulot, with all the rest also being capable of a strong performance.

The ten Silver class championship finalists are a bunch of in-form horses, including this year’s four time winner Robin Lou, Delvin Brodde coming from two straight wins, Ironbar and Victory Toll also winners this season, with all others having promising performances recently.

The Bronze and Copper class finals are equally balanced, with many finalists having already entered the winners’ circle this year.

Some of Malta’s best horses, competing in the Gold class, will contest the remaining trot races. Many of them come from recent wins, such as Soren Sufflor, Lovely Mab, L’Ideal de Fersan, Oscar Mati, Orlando Tejy and many others.

The Class A flat race scheduled for last week will be re-run next Sunday after a problem with the starting gates led to it being declared a “no race”.

The Skyparks finals will provide us a great opportunity to share in the rich heritage associated with Swedish trotting ... one of the most renowned worldwide.
