The GWU Denies allegations

Malta Independent Sunday, 6 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

With reference to the front page article by Stephen Calleja regarding the Civil Service collective agreement entitled “Government seeks conclusion as election looms” (TMIS, 29 April), the GWU strongly objects to the statement made which implies that “the GWU is taking turns with the Malta Union of Nurses and Midwives to create obstacles” so that the collective agreement be delayed.

Contrary to Mr Calleja’s assertions, in each and every case when negotiating a collective agreement on behalf of employees, the GWU’s primary interest is always that the negotiations be concluded in the earliest possible time so that the workers start reaping the benefits of the collective agreement.

Mr Calleja should have verified the facts before going to print because what he said when referring to the GWU in his front-page comment is completely unfounded and is either an invention of his or he was grossly misled by his so-called sources.
