Five Members of Parliament from both political parties will be sweating it out on a hot Friday morning, riding a bicycle and making their way to their old school at Ħandaq, Qormi.

On Friday, St. Ignatius College, Boys’ Secondary school, Ħandaq, will hold a 14-hour long event to raise funds in aid of Puttinu Cares Cancer Support Group.

The five MPs, Carmelo Abela, David Agius, Gino Cauchi, Roderick Galdes and Philip Mifsud, all former students at Liceo Mikiel Anton Vassalli, Ħandaq, will take part in a special Duathlon Challenge as part of Festa Ħandaq 2012.

Prior to the inauguration, they will cycle off from St George’s Square, Valletta to Qormi where a group of former students, teachers and parents will join them. From there on, the entire group will run the final part of the challenge to the school. The opening ceremony, starting at 9am, will be presided over by Dr Joe Cassar, Minister for Health, the Elderly and Primary Care.

Thereafter, the school will transform itself into a hive of activities and events. These will include a two-kilometre road race and fun walk as well as many other sports activities, hair and beauty treatments, a photography exhibition, a bazaar selling clothes, shoes, books, frames and plants, a scouts parade, a historic re-enactment, food stalls, a car wash, tombola and indoor games.

The evening will draw to a close with several performances by well-known local singers and dancers.

All proceeds for this all day activity will go to Puttinu Cares Cancer Support Group. Yesterday, all former students and teachers were invited to attend a reunion at the Ħandaq School.
