England defender Chris Smalling with miss the European Championship with a groin injury.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson announced on Friday that Smalling was injured during last weekend’s victory over Swansea.

Ferguson says Smalling “has suffered a bad injury. It is a groin muscle injury and he will miss the European Championship.”

But while United striker Danny Welbeck will miss tomorrow’s Premier League finale at Sunderland with an ankle injury, Ferguson says the England international should be fit for Euro 2012.

England coach Roy Hodgson is due to name his Euro 2012 squad on Wednesday. England’s opening match is against France on 11 June in Ukraine.
