Maltese top female athlete Diane Borg, opened her international season in Italy last Wednesday in superb style.
She ran the 100m in 11.96sec, (though with a generous favourable wind), but most importantly with a legal 24.44sec in the 200m, only 0.17sec shy of the national record she set for the distance last year at the Games of the Small States of Europe in Liechtenstein. The Sportswoman of the Year and 100m and 200m national record holder has already had some very good performances in Malta, running 12.13sec for the 100m and 24.86sec for the 200m.
It was thanks to the support by the Malta Amateur Athletics Association and the Malta Olympic Committee that she was able to take part in these competitions abroad. The next competition for Borg will be at this weekend’s national championships as organised by the Malta Amateur Athletics Association at the Marsa Stadium. Borg is also supported by KMS though its Athletes Support Programmes.
