Letter: Well Done Hibernians

Malta Independent Tuesday, 15 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

My congratulations to our boys on their outstanding performance and impressive display, beating the champions Valletta FC last Saturday.

It is now an open secret, you can beat Valletta FC any time!

My congratulations to our learned coach Mark Miller and to all the true and genuine supporters.

A big thank you should go to my old friend Tony, the Club president, a true loyal gentleman, and to all the main committee members, technical staff and Supporters Club for their hard work, to put it mildly, throughout the season.

Most unfortunately, last Saturday we had to once again witness a number of controversial decisions by the referee and the assistant referee Borg.

The latter failed to signal a crystal clear offside position which led to Valletta’s only goal and a clear handsball also by Michael Mifsud. The game officials failed on several occasions to signal the continuous fouls on Andrew Cohen and also failed to show a red card to Gilbert Agius for the unnecessary, most disgusting and dangerous tackle on Marcelo Dias. It was quite a different story in the case of Edison Luis dos Santos who was given marching orders, without any hesitation.

I sincerely hope that both the Police Authorities responsible and MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo will hold an enquiry to establish how and why Valletta supporters were allowed to invade the pitch while the Hibs players were still there. This could have led to very serious incidents and one hopes that such an episode will not repeat itself. Nobody is above the Law.
