St George’s managed to register a win against Naxxar Lions with a good overall performance although it did not save them from relegation to Division Two next season.

The game took some time to get off its feet and it was only in the 23rd minute that St George’s managed to open the score when from a corner taken by Dylan Zarb, goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi made a glaring mistake and punched into his own net.

Only two minutes later, St George’s almost doubled the score when Jonathan L. Ruiz came face to face with goalkeeper Azzopardi but the latter did not find any difficulty in parrying his shot as it was too central.

In the 60th minute Inguanez had a shot from outside which hit the post and from the rebound Dylan Zarb had his attempt well saved by goalkeeper Azzopardi.

Three minutes later St George’s doubled the score when after receiving a through ball, Klinsman Grech managed to put the ball into the back of the net.

Just a few minutes before the final whistle, Naxxar L. coach Winston Muscat was expelled after passing some disparaging remarks to the referee.
