Ten-man Vittoriosa obtained their sixth consecutive victory to finish the season on a high after a dismal start. Vittoriosa once again confirmed their potential yesterday in a low key match that never really reached high standards.

All goals were scored in the first half with Marcelo Pereira having another good game for the Stars.

Vittoriosa had a brilliant start as they built a two-goal lead inside the first 13 minutes. After only six minutes Mark Barbara passed towards Gary Muir who first timed beautifully in the net.

Seven minutes later Vittoriosa doubled the score when Marcelo Pereira robbed Jonathan Bugeja of the ball to beat Saints’ goalkeeper Daniel Balzan. St. Andrew’s pulled one back on 31 minutes when Michael Grima fired a beauty from the edge of the area, with the ball finishing in the top corner of the net.

In the final minutes of the first half, Leighton Grech missed a golden opportunity when he shot straight on the goalkeeper and on the other end, Alhinho missed a sitter shooting incredibly wide from two metres.

The second half was less intense. Vittoriosa controlled the match and received a setback on 73 minutes when Leighton Grech was sent off for dissent, receiving two yellow cards in the same action. The Saints failed to capitalise and Vittoriosa could have scored a third goal when he failed to score with an open goal at his mercy.
