Bad Film

Malta Independent Friday, 18 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I have watched many bad films in my time but Battleship is probably the worst. It beggars belief that Hollywood can spend millions on superb effects but finds it so difficult to find good scriptwriters and intellectually acceptable storylines – even Avatar is poorly structured.

In Battleship we have an attack on earth that is never properly explained. Not a single word is spoken by the aliens: We are told nothing about them nor why they are such implacable destroyers.

The ‘earthlings on the other hand are a bunch gung-ho trigger-happy naval types who have knee-jerked an event they do not understand: They shoot first and ask questions later. This is little more than a B-movie cowboy and Indian production where the cowboy is always right and the Indian is always wrong.
