Zebbug R 3

Attard 2

Zebbug managed to turn defeat into victory after being in arrears very early in the game. Their never-say-die attitude paid good dividends and they emerged worthy winners.

They are in 6th place on 32 points from 21 games while Attard are in 8th position on 27 points having played all their games.

The game was only one minute old when Attard took the lead. They won a corner kick on the left flank which was well-taken by Andrea Galea St John and after the ball was partly cleared, Jean Borg scored from the rebound with a hard drive.

From a similar action four minutes later Jean drove slightly out from inside the area.

In the 6th minute Zebbug restored equilibrium when Neil Grixti served Chris Farrugia who scored with a rising shot.

Attard then won a corner kick on the and after Galea St John’s flag kick Nicholas Mangion drove out from the rebound after the ball was partly cleared.

In a reaction by Zebbug they created two actions. Wayne Camilleri entered the area after dribbling past a defender and Attard keeper Isaac Angileri foiled him by diving at his feet to smother the ball.

Moments later he was forced to tip the ball over the bar denying Chris Farrugia’s close-range effort.

Four minutes before half time Zebbug scored a second goal with an identical move between the same players when Grixti served Chris Farrugia in the area who scored with a hard grounder.

In the first action after the restart Grixti served Chris Farrugia in the area and Angileri was forced to dive at his feet to foil him from further progression.

Zebbug kept pressing and had two more actions. Philip Camilleri served substitute Matthew Camilleri in the area and Angileri foiled him with a timely sortie. Then the same player then served

Chris Farrugia on the left flank who, after entering the area, missed the upright by inches.

In an effort to save the game Attard went close when Jean Borg entered the area after beating two defenders and Zebbug keeper Clayton Pace denied with a diving save in two attempts.

After the same player was fouled on the left flank, the free kick by Ryan Martinelli created havoc in Zebbug’s area but the ball was somehow cleared to safety.

The score became 3-1 on the hour when Philip Camilleri served Ryan Muscat who entered the area after beating a defender and netted with a hard grounder.

In the 64th minute Attard reduced the gap as Brady Borg pounced on a faulty back-pass, served Jean Borg on the left flank who netted with a hard rising shot after entering the area.

Attard then created the last action before the end when Jean Borg was fouled outside the area but from Martinelli’s free kick Pace turned the ball to a corner.
