1965 Cup Winners’ Cup:

West Ham -1860 Munich 2-0

Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters tasted Wembley triumph over German opponents the previous year, featuring in the West Ham side that beat 1860 Munich. Alan Sealey scored both goals.

1966 Cup Winners’ Cup:

Borussia Dortmund -Liverpool 2-1

Liverpool’s first European final ended in disappointment, as they lost out to Dortmund at Hampden Park. Roger Hunt cancelled out Sigfried Held’s (former Malta national team coach) opener to send the match to extra-time, where Reinhard Libuda scored the winner.

1973 UEFA Cup:

Liverpool -Bor. M’gladbach (agg) 3-2

Liverpool got the job done as two goals from Kevin Keegan and one from Larry Lloyd gave them a 3-0 win in a first leg played over two days due to heavy rain. Jupp Heynckes - the current Bayern boss - scored a double in Germany to make the tie close, but Liverpool held out.

1975 European Cup:

Bayern Munich-Leeds United 2-0

The second of three European Cups in a row for Bayern, who saw off Leeds at the Parc des Princes. Goals in the last 20 minutes from Franz Roth and Gerd Mueller were enough for Bayern to see off Leeds.

1977 European Cup:

Liverpool-Borussia M’gladbach 3-1

Two years after their UEFA Cup win, Liverpool got the better of Moenchengaldbach again, this time in the big one. Allan Simonsen cancelled out Terry McDermott’s opener at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, before Tommy Smith restored Liverpool’s lead and Phil Neal converted a late penalty.

1980 European Cup:

Nottingham Forest- Hamburg 1-0

Brian Clough’s crowning glory, as the defending champions retained their title thanks to John Robertson’s first-half goal against a Hamburg side which had, among its ranks, Kevin Keegan.

1982 European Cup:

Aston Villa -Bayern Munich 1-0

Villa’s only major European honour was secured at De Kuip, and Brian Moore’s TV commentary of Peter Withe’s winning goal is written on a huge banner at Villa Park

1998 Cup Winners’ Cup:

Chelsea -VfB Stuttgart 1-0

The penultimate Cup Winners’ Cup final saw Chelsea lift the trophy for the second time. Substitute Gianfranco Zola’s marvellous second-half strike was enough to settle matters in Stockholm.

1999 Champions League:

Man United -Bayern Munich 2-1

Brinksmanship of the highest order from United, who were hopeless for 90 minutes and irresistible for three. Mario Basler’s early free-kick gave Bayern the lead, and as the Germans’ ribbons were being attached to the trophy, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struck in stoppage time to turn the game on its head.
