Horse-racing: Three Gold Class races dominate weekend meeting

Malta Independent Saturday, 19 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Another horse racing meeting will be held at the Marsa racetrack tomorrow. The meeting starts at 2pm and includes nine trotting races on the relatively long 2,640m distance.

Three Gold class races each featuring a full field of 16 horses constitute the highlight of this meeting.

The last one features many trotters which were racing in the Premier class until recently and which would be promoted again to that class with a win.

Even the other Gold class races include numerous horses coming from strong recent performances, such as Lonestar Somolli (three consecutive wins), Natif de l’Hommee, Soren Sufflor, Side Spin and Victory Farming, all winners in their last outing.

We also welcome back some trotters which have been away from racing for some months, including Deli du Ling, Nemrod du Ruisseau, Mustang de Belfin and My Red Force.

The two Silver class events are also extremely balanced, with participants aged between 7 and 15 years and hailing from France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and USA. These include recent winners Nasdaq du Closet Nicole L.H. and Olympic Swing and many other valid horses.

We also congratulate Gozitan Julian Farrugia, who won the Driver of the Month Award for April. He won six races during that month, three of which in the 22 April meeting.

Finally we convey our condolences to the family of Mario Bugeja, driver of some excellent horses at our racecourse, who unfortunately lost his life in a tragic workplace accident in Gozo last Sunday.
