On Sunday 6th May, the VLTC organised a Green Tennis Festival at the club's courts. Players from Pembroke and Lija tennis clubs together with players from the VLTC participated in this festival. Green tennis is based on the concept of using slower tennis balls to make the game easier to learn and more enjoyable to play for young players.
The festival was held on the initiative of Mr Marco Cappello, the VLTC's head coach and was aimed for youngsters between the ages of 9 and 12 coming from the respective towns. It was also Mr Cappello's purpose to expose the young participants to the first level of competitive tennis.
The tournament attracted the participation of twenty youngsters who were split into four groups playing on the VLTC's four courts in a round robin format. This festival proved to be very successful with relatives, parents and coaches of the children coming to the club to enjoy this festival. At the end of play, the young participants were awarded a trophy each for their endeavours.
